Something to think about

This quote was forwarded to me by an old friend back in the summer, and at that time I posted it on my facebook page. I thought it was a nice thing to think about for the coming New Year.

I was RAISED, I didn’t just grow up. I was taught to speak when I enter a room, say please & thank you, to have respect for my elders, lend a helping hand to those in need, hold the door for the person behind me, say “excuse me” when it’s needed, & to love people for who they are, not for what you can get from them. I was also taught to treat people the way I want to be treated.

    POEM FROM MONA
    BY ARTHUR SYMONS

    At Seventeen
you were a child and liked me yesterday
today you are a woman, and perhaps
those softer eyes betoken the sunset lapse
of liking into loving who shall say?
only i know that there can be for us
no, liking more nor any kisses now,
but they shall wake sweet shame upon your brows
sweetly, or in a rose calamitious

trembling upon the verse of some new dawn
you stand as if awaked, out of sleep
and it is i cried to you “Arise”
i who would fain call back the child that’s gone
and what you lost for me would have you keep
fearing to meet the woman of your eyes

    Hi Gregory Abbott
This is your biggest fan, feeling sad that I cannot be online 24/7..like I use to ..while I was globetrotting. I am back at home with “pickney chores” coming at me from all directions. One came home yesterday..two more to come tomorrow. But I see my family is still at it. Eventually you will be able to tell who & who is related and how (smile) For instance Mona is my ‘step” mother-in-law, which means she is married to Bruce’s father. They will be spending the winter season in Fiji, along with grandfather & his wife & their children (B’s biological grandmother died when his father was 8-years old. So, obviously we did not know her, but the family keeps her alive by living the way she would want them to. The island in Fiji (Lomani) is where grandfather met her. One of B’s sisters (and he has 6) just called from London to tell me about her mother’s (Mona) blog entry. She (Sabrina) has a story to tell. I told her, since you like to read , she should start blogging too.
Okay gotto go…. a pickney just woke up. I know you know what that means, so for the other readers..its a Caribbean word for child….. “patois” for the day…lol

We assume you mean you saw a video of someone singing “Shake You Down” on youtube. There are many people who do cover versions of the song, then post them. Some good, and some….. not so good (smile) gregoryabbott.com

    Hello Gregory,
I’ve been trying to write in your blog, ever since I saw Mona’s poem, who is my mother, and I am the oldest of her 7 children She is so impressed with your biography and your quotes of the day. She follows what you post each day. She can even tell when its past 24 hours. In the guestbook she wrote she was from UK. That is where she lives, with Father, but Mona was born in India & adopted & named by a British couple. I am telling you this because of the song you wrote about “Eyes” She is all about the story one’s eyes can tell & believes that all people with green eyes are somehow related. So, Mother believes you are related to my Father who has green eyes and a chocolate colour complexion. I could write a book about our family tree, but this is a blog.(smile) Will love to continue via email. You have mine therefore its your move:-)
Its Christmas Eve morning here…My family & I wish you & yours a Merry one.
    Luv Sydney
